If you do remodeling without a permit it can be red tagged. You as the legal homeowner can be your own contractor and do any repairs that do not require inspection. If you hire a remodel contractor for the electrical, plumbing, etc, make sure they are able to pull the permits for that and only used licensed individuals for this work so you can get insurance on the home without problems.
